Qualcomm has released the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 computing platform, which is the company’s next-generation SoC for always-on, always-connected Windows PCs and Chromebook laptops. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon platform is the successor of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c, which was introduced in 2019, and the two platforms have many characteristics. The new Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 processor, according to Qualcomm, may offer up to 10% greater performance than competing platforms and up to twice the battery life of any entry-level laptop, with up to 19 hours of continuous usage on a single charge. On new laptops and Chromebooks, the new platform is also intended to improve camera and audio experiences. Qualcomm said that the new processor would be commercially available this summer.

The processor is said to be up to 60% more performance efficient than the competition, and it’s designed for laptops targeted at educators, students, first-line employees, and ordinary customers. The Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 has an octa-core Kryo 468 CPU with a clock speed of up to 2.55GHz, an Adreno GPU, and a Qualcomm Hexagon 692 DSP, as well as an Adreno GPU and a Qualcomm Hexagon 692 DSP. While the CPU’s design is identical to that of its predecessor, the new chipset allows for a faster clock speed. The 8nm technique is used in both the original and new Snapdragon chipsets.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 chipset also has a 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 255 image signal processor, which may handle twin 16-megapixel cameras or a single 32-megapixel camera. The processor utilises Qualcomm’s Aqstic technology for audio processing, as well as Qualcomm Voice Suite audio processing. The new chipset also supports 4K HDR10 video playback as well as the codecs H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC), and VP9. Qualcomm aptX audio playback is also supported. Qualcomm has included compatibility for displays with a resolution of up to QHD and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM, eMMC 5.1 or UFS 2.1 storage are also included.
